If your home is damaged and you are hiring a home repair contractor, the Consumer Services Department offers a checklist of to-dos to get you started on rebuilding your home.



  1. File a claim with your insurance company.
  2. Document everything and take photos
  3. Know your contractor. Call references and beware of scams.
  4. Check complaint history with consumer protection agencies.
  5. Check the license and insurance.
  6. Obtain at least three estimates.
  7. Get promises in writing.
  8. Avoid paying large sums of money up front.
  9. Pay by credit card instead of cash.

Citizens can report damages to their homes after a storm. The link below will ask for address where damages were incurred, contact name and phone number and details about the specific type of damages seen. After damages are reported, someone from the OEM Office will be in contact with you to gather more detailed information and come take pictures before any repairs have been made.
