County Judge

The County Judge is the county's chief administrative officer. He presides over the Quorum Court, however does not carry a vote within the court he only has the power of veto. The budget for the county is prepared by a committee which is appointed by the County Judge. When the budget is put to vote with the Quorum Court it has to pass by a 2/3 vote.


A County Judge also:


  1. Authorizes and approves the disbursements of all appropriated county funds
  2. Operates the system of county roads
  3. Administers ordinances enacted by the quorum court
  4. Has custody of county property
  5. Accepts grants from federal, state, public, and private sources
  6. Ensure all boards have sufficient members appointed.
  7. Hires county employees except those employed by other elected officials of the county
  8. Declares a burn ban based on the weather and forestry laws.


The County Judge oversees the following departments:


  • Comptroller and Assistant Comptroller who handle Human Relations and claims for payment.
  • County Library
  • E-911
  • Maintenance
  • Office of Emergency Management/Addressing & Mapping
  • Road Department/Quarry
  • Transfer and Recycling Station
  • Veteran Services Officer

A constable is a constitutional township official.  Marion County has one (1) township.  A constable is charged, by law, to conserve the peace in his township (ACA 16-19-301). In order for a constable to have access to information from the Arkansas Crime Information Center and to carry a firearm, the officer must receive required training. Uniform and vehicle requirements are also mandated for constables in the performance of official duties (ACA 14-14-1314).

ELECTED COUNTY CORONER - Duties of the Office – When a death is reported to the coroner, he shall conduct an investigation concerning the circumstances surrounding the death of an individual and gather and review background information, including, but not limited to, medical information and   any   other   information   which   may   be   helpful   in determining the cause and manner of death.
