The Marion County Quarry does NOT sell gravel to the public. By state laws we are not allowed to do so. The county does donate to schools and churches, and gravel is sold to the cities in Marion County.

Stealing a Sign Comes With a Price!

You may not think it can happen to you but if you get caught stealing a street sign you will get charged with theft of property. This offense is a Class A misdemeanor, which can put you in county jail for up to one year and/or a fine up to $2,500.

In most cases, sign theft is a misdemeanor, and the penalty is a fine and potentially up to a year in jail. But if you steal lots of signs, that can cross the line into felony theft that will put you in state prison for up to 6 years, as well as leaving you paying fines and restitution.

A sign cost between $30-$124 (depending on the type of signage). But the cost of the labor and reinstalling the post and anchor make signs more expensive.

Of course, sign theft can compound into other problems. Steal an electric fence warning sign, and someone can get electrocuted. Steal a street sign, and emergency services workers can get lost, putting lives and property at risk. And if someone gets hurt because of the sign theft, the thief can be sued or even criminally prosecuted for the consequences.

Property owners can also have problems caused by sign theft. By law, property owners are required to warn their guests of hidden hazards on their properties, and failure to warn can lead to a lawsuit.

Sign theft also negatively affects taxpayers, who must foot the bill for replacing signs - often at more than the initial cost. It can cost over $500 to buy and reinstall a simple sign!

SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING - - YOU MAY BE SAVING A LIFE! If you see someone stealing signs in the city or county please contact the local or county law enforcement agency. You will also need to report the theft or missing signage to the city or county depending on location of signs placement.
